Over time, artists develop formulas for success. Whether rooted in superstition, repetition, or just plain knowing what works, these practices can provide a roadmap or outline for a new project. Volbeat frontman Michael Poulsen has relied on various formulas to write the songs that have earned the band more than 143 platinum and gold certifications around the globe. In addition, the Danish band has scored ten #1 songs on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, the most ever for a band based outside North America.
For their ninth album, God of Angels Trust, Poulsen threw caution to the wind, paying little heed to traditional songwriting in the search for something more immediate and surprising. Instead of following a predefined structure, the band focused on capturing spontaneity, raw emotion, and a heavier sonic edge. The result is an album that dives deeper into metal’s darker realms while maintaining Volbeat’s signature fusion of classic rock, heavy metal, punk, and rockabilly influences.
Tracks like “Heaven’s Descent”. charge forward with relentless energy, while “The Sacred Stones” embraces a more ominous, brooding atmosphere. The album also introduces unexpected contrasts, such as “Dagen Før”, featuring Danish pop vocalist Stine Bramsen, which brings a haunting melodic counterpoint to the record’s heavier moments.
Since their formation in Copenhagen in 2001, Volbeat has established itself as one of the most innovative and consistently successful rock bands of the past two decades. Their electrifying live performances are fueled by thunderous riffs, anthemic choruses, and relentless energy, making each show a visceral experience.
On October 23 at Rockhal., Volbeat will bring God of Angels Trust to life on stage, alongside the fan-favorite anthems that have defined their career.
