DOUBLE TRANCHANT - Jacques SCHMITZ & Raphael TANIOS
Exhibition
The “Double Tranchant” Exhibition: An Artistic Confrontation between Figuration and Expression
From March 29 to April 26, 2025, the Schëfflenger Konschthaus is hosting the “Double Tranchant” exhibition, an artistic encounter between Jacques Schmitz and Raphael Tanios. Through distinct visual approaches, these two artists explore the ambivalence of the gaze, the duality of emotions, and the tension between figuration and abstraction.
Jacques Schmitz’s work is characterized by a pictorial exploration where human forms mingle with symbolic elements, creating an enigmatic, narrative atmosphere. In contrast, Raphael Tanios dives into a rawer, more emotional mode of expression, with faces marked by dramatic intensity and a vibrant palette.
The “Double Tranchant” exhibition invites visitors to immerse themselves in a world where perception oscillates between familiarity and strangeness, between order and chaos. The works of both artists simultaneously contrast with and complement each other, revealing a striking duality that prompts the viewer to reflect on the complexity of human existence and how it is represented.
